Swelling in piglets
Pathogen: certain serotypes of p-hemolytic colibacilli. The main serotypes of hemolytic E. coli are E4-0139, 0133, 0141,026.
A.M. Rastegaeva (1957) isolated a P-hemolytic coli from the coli group, a hemolytic colibacillus, a toxigenic microorganism, a thermolabile toxin, and the hemolytic E. coli is quite stable, in feces, soil, water, it can last several months. 15 minutes, at 100 ° C - instantly.
Epizootology. Course and symptoms. Susceptible: piglets-weaners.
In typical cases, diseases - syndromes withsigns of excitement and short-term convulsions at the onset of the disease and the development of paresis and paralysis afterwards. In pigs, swelling and flushing of the eyelids, loss of appetite, sometimes vomiting, short-term diarrhea, frequent pulse, weakening of heart tones and congestive flushing of the skin, cyanosis of the patch, ears, abdominal skin and distal limbs are noted. Breathing is difficult, thoracic; voice hoarse, barking. In the prodromal period, the temperature is 41.2-41.8 ° C, then decreases to normal. In atypical course, symptoms of heart failure, general oppression and signs of gastroenteritis predominate.
Pathological changes. At autopsy, the edema of the eyelids and conjunctiva, the gelatinous edema of the subcutaneous tissue (in the eye, forehead, the base of the ears), the walls of the stomach and mesentery of the large intestines, catarrh of the stomach and small intestines, hyperemia of the cerebral vessels, puffiness of the shell and brain substance are characteristic. Mesenterial lymph nodes are swollen, with marble on the incision.
Diagnostics. Materials for bacteriological examination are lymph nodes, contents of the stomach and intestines, parenchymal organs (spleen, liver). Crops are produced on Wednesday by Endo or blood agar. After receiving the primary growth, the colonies begin serological typing colonies of Escherichia coli and simultaneously study the properties of the isolated cultures. An important diagnostic index of edematous disease is the detection in the pat. material of beta-hemolytic rods of E. coli.
Differential diagnostics. Distinctive features of edematous disease from similar diseases - Teschen, Aujeszky's disease, pasteurellosis and nervous plague form is the presence of pronounced edema, as well as the absence of hemorrhagic diathesis and macroscopically expressed degenerative-inflammatory processes.
From listeriosis, edematous disease is distinguished by a lack of small yellow-white necrotic foci in the liver, lymph nodes, and spleen.
Prevention and treatment. Treatment. All piglets of the unsuccessful farm with preventive purpose are prescribed antibiotics (neomycin, colimycin, etc.), intramuscularly - dimedrol; inside - a solution of calcium chloride, intramuscularly or intraperitoneally - 10% solution of calcium gluconate with 1% solution of novocaine; after treatment with antibiotics prescribe acidophilic drugs.
Prevention: a gradual removal of piglets, providing them with vitamin-mineral supplementation.
Veterinary and sanitary examination. Bacteriological examination of the products of slaughter is carried out. With negative reactions, the carcass and unchanged internal organs are sent to the manufacture of sausages. Changed organs are disposed of. In case of detection of Salmonella, meat carcass is subject to welding, making of meat loaves, canned food, internal organs are utilized.
Carcasses of exhausted animals with the presence of degenerative changes in skeletal muscles are utilized with internal organs.
Disinfection of premises is carried out with a solution of bleach with 3% active chlorine or 4% hot sodium hydroxide.
