How to stop swelling

If swelling on the legs is chronic,it can talk about heart failure. Edema caused by heart problems is painless. With heart failure, the weakened cardiac muscle does not pump all the blood, as a result of which it begins to accumulate in the veins, which leads to their expansion on the legs. The liquid component of blood seeps into the tissue and causes swelling. With heart failure, edema spreads to both legs.

Another cause of chronic edema is phlebitis, withwhich one or more veins are clogged with a blood clot, called a thrombus. Most often with phlebitis, edema affects one leg, rarely two. The disease brings severe pain.

Varicosity is a violation of the outflow of blood, whichleads to an increase in pressure first in large veins, then in small ones. High pressure in the capillaries facilitates the release of fluid from the vessels into the tissue, which causes swelling. With varicose veins, swelling is often asymmetrical on both legs or is present only on one. With varicose veins, swelling increases in the evening or after a prolonged stay on the legs.

With kidney diseases, edema spreads toboth legs and is not accompanied by pain. There may be swelling on the face and hands, blue under the eyes, sometimes there is an increase in body temperature. This occurs when the amount or composition of proteins in the body is disturbed. If the kidneys are sick, then they excrete protein into the urine. When the loss of protein occurs in the tissues, replenishment is due to a fluid leaking from the blood vessels, into which the protein enters. This causes swelling.

Impaired lymph flow in the skin and subcutaneous tissueleads to stagnation of lymph. This is due to the violation of water and protein metabolism in the body. In this case, there are strong swelling. This phenomenon is called "elephant disease".

Side effect of drugs

Some medications may causeswelling of the legs. These include contraceptives containing female hormones - estrogens, some drugs that lower blood pressure, long-term steroids for diseases such as arthritis, cancer, asthma.

To the appearance of edema leads wrongselected footwear, which helps to limit the contraction of the calf muscles. Do not wear tight and narrow shoes at too high a heel or with a completely flat sole.
