Swelling after breast augmentation
Edema after breast enlargement is a common postoperative complication. It is a collection of fluid in the tissues of the breast and is of a local nature.
Edema formation occurs immediately after surgical intervention is completed. It reaches its peak state for 3-4 days and can look very significant.
Before plastic surgery the doctor shouldinform the patient that the shape of her breasts after the enlargement may be more than desirable and look asymmetrical due to swelling and, so-called, "tissue subsidence" phenomenon.
To speed up the removal of puffiness, the doctor recommendspatient during the first time to wear compression clothes around the clock. This will fix the mammary glands and eliminate the risk of excessive mobility, which negatively affects the processes of repair and regeneration of breast tissue. In addition, compression linen is made from a special material, which has a gentle massage effect on the mammary glands, thereby contributing to the normalization of blood circulation and lymph flow.
Cold puffs will also help reduce puffiness. In combination with the wearing of compression linen, this measure gives a good result.
To sleep for the first time after augmentation mammoplasty is recommended in a half-lying condition, so that the upper half of the trunk is above the lower one (at an angle of 25 to 45 degrees).Negatively affect the healing of the mammary glands after surgery and increase edema can:
- exposure to ultraviolet light;
- steaming (visiting the bath, steam room, sauna, taking a hot bath);
- physical activity.
As a preventive measure, it is recommended to reduce the consumption of salt in food.
In some cases, swelling after breast augmentationmay indicate the onset of an inflammatory process. In this case, it will be accompanied by redness of the breast and an increase in body temperature. If there are a combination of these characteristics, the patient should immediately seek medical help.
In most patients, edema passes through 2-3weeks after breast augmentation. But due to the individual characteristics of the patient's body, it can persist for several months. After the swelling has passed, a woman will be able to assess the aesthetic result of augmentation mammoplasty.
