Vascular swelling of the body

Edema on the face can be vascular.

The cause of edema of the face may be a rarely occurring thrombosis of the superior vena cava as a remote complication in patients after cannulation of the central vein. The patient has cyanosis and swelling of the face.

Thrombosis of the cavernous sinus usually occursafter the transferred inflammatory processes of the face or paranasal sinuses. This, as a rule, patients with reduced immunity, suffering from diabetes. They complain of pain in the eye and frontal area, the presence of puffiness around the eyes and protrusion of the eyeball. In the future, swelling can spread to the entire half of the face. As a result of involvement in the process of the cranial nerve, diplopia is possible.

Clinical picture of thrombosis of the superior vena cavais identical with that in its obstruction. In patients with cavernous sinus thrombosis, redness and swelling around the eyes are noted, spreading to the entire face, exophthalmos may be observed. Check for the presence of paresis III, IV and VI pairs of cranial nerves. The patient has an increase in body temperature and malaise.
