Why does the leg swell around the fracture?
Surgeon-phlebologist-lymphologist, surgeon of the first category
Hello, Elena Olegovna. Tell me, please, why the foot swells? I have a fracture of the lower leg with a subluxation. Gypsum was applied in December. On March, 10th have removed.
The leg is very swollen: both in the region of the shin, and the foot itself.
We recommended a 2% troxevasin gel and warm baths. But while everything is in place. Is this normal? Many thanks.
Elena, Moscow, 50 years old
Edema after fracture may persist for a long time. To exclude it is necessary the transferred or carried thrombosis of veins. Address internally to the doctor-phlebologist and make a duplex scanning of veins. If the veins are all right - it is possible to conduct lymph drainage procedures to reduce swelling.
Sincerely, Elena Belyanina.
