Periventricular cerebral edema in adults

Cerebral edema is a condition whenwhich because of the accumulation of water and the concentration of sodium increases the volume of brain tissue. This happens in the process of head trauma, stroke, infection, central nervous system disorders, disturbance of the osmotic equilibrium of the plasma. At the same time, nerve cells are damaged and intracranial pressure rises. Edema can have dangerous consequences (especially in newborns), in the absence of appropriate treatment, not only permanent neurological complications occur, but in some cases even death.

It should be noted that the treatment of cerebral edemaYou can not conduct yourself - you should seek qualified medical help. In some cases, the condition of the patient is so severe that it requires surgery (trepanation of the skull). After the crisis has passed, and there is no reason not to worry about the patient's life, you can turn to folk remedies. The methods of phytotherapy help to smooth out the consequences of the disease and partially restore the brain's ability to work. For treatment to be successful, eliminate alcohol from your life.

The cerebral edema does not appear "just like that" - it has its own reasons. We list the most common of them.

At the heart of the ailment may lie primary brain diseases:

  • encephalitis;
  • subarachnoid hemorrhage (this is common in newborns during childbirth);
  • brain tumors;
  • head trauma (in which case perifocal edema is possible);
  • status epilepticus.

Also, the reasons may lie in the systemic diseases affecting the brain:

  • exogenous and endogenous toxins;
  • metabolic disorders (eg, hypoglycemia);
  • critical violations of acid-base and water-salt balance (this happens with hepatic insufficiency);
  • sepsis
  • acute cardiac insufficiency and cardiogenic shock
  • toxicosis of the pregnant (in this case, the fetus or newborn can have brain edema);
  • polyorganous trauma;
  • collagenoses;
  • leukemia.

Also, cerebral edema is observed whenDakosta Syndrome (Mountain Disease). More rare causes - alcohol in large doses (intoxication), a side effect of antibiotic treatment, chemotherapy. Depending on the reasons, the prognosis of treatment can be different.

Cerebral edema, in general, gives symptoms,associated with increased intracranial pressure. Also, the signs of brain edema largely depend on the structure in which there is pressure. We list the most common:

  • headache (first it is observed in the morning or at night, then the attacks increase in time);
  • vomiting (often accompanied by headaches);
  • edema of the optic disc;
  • increased blood pressure;
  • bradycardia;
  • disorders of consciousness (from drowsiness to coma);
  • deterioration of vision;
  • problems with balance;
  • stiff neck;
  • convulsions.

In severe cases, edema in the brain gives disturbingsymptoms for all organs and systems. The life of the whole organism is jeopardized, therefore, you must deliver the patient to the hospital as soon as possible. The exact prognosis of treatment in this case you will not put anyone (because the consequences of brain damage are difficult to predict).

The treatment of this ailment depends on its cause. Most often, you need to reduce intracranial pressure - for this, in addition to pharmacological drugs used herbs with a similar effect. It is very important to constantly monitor the general condition of the patient (especially if it is a swelling in the newborn) and to remove symptoms (temperature, pain, etc.). Some traditional medicine removes the unpleasant effects of edema.

At the time of treatment is completely contraindicatedalcohol. It is also advisable to quit smoking. avoid emotional stress, provide a full-fledged diet to the patient. If you carefully follow all the recommendations, the prognosis of therapy will be very optimistic.

Mild edema will go away if takentincture of arnica mountain. This plant normalizes the water-salt balance and reduces the permeability of cell membranes. It struggles with convulsions, regulates the tone of the central nervous system.
Although alcohol is not recommended for swelling of the brain,yet in this case you must make an alcoholic tincture of arnica. To do this, mix 100 g of dried arnica flowers and 100 ml of vodka (or medical alcohol diluted to 30-40 degrees). The mixture should be infused for 14 days, then strain it and put it in the refrigerator. In the morning, at lunch and in the evening after eating, take half a teaspoon of tincture, washing down with a small amount of water. Treatment continue until unpleasant symptoms and swelling are gone.

Attention! Arnica belongs to a group of poisonous plants, so you should not exceed the dosage in any case. The admission of that remedy is contraindicated for young children (and even more so for a newborn), but adults too should be cautious with it.

Eleuterococcus is also intended for adults. This herb removes unpleasant symptoms and treats the effects of cerebral edema - dementia, weakness, drowsiness, etc. However, remember that the root of Eleutherococcus is toxic, so do not exceed the dosage in any case. In case the swelling is severe, the medicine should be taken very carefully (start with small doses).

To prepare the tincture, you will again needalcohol (quality vodka or alcohol, dissolved in half with water) and dry shredded roots of Eleutherococcus (in a ratio of 10: 1). The mixture is infused in a dark and warm place for 10 days, after which it should be filtered. Take a teaspoon of tincture three times a day before eating until you feel relief.

If you have experienced cerebral edema, thenmust necessarily take verbena. Take 1 teaspoon of dry plant, add a glass of boiling water, cover the dishes with a lid and insist for 10 minutes. A strained drink is drunk once a glass (it is best to take it before going to bed). Remember that this plant is contraindicated for newborns.

Here is another recipe that reduces swelling:

Mix all the ingredients. Pour 1 teaspoon of the mixture with a glass of boiling water and leave to infuse for 10 minutes, then strain and drink the drink 2 times a day for one cup.

Grass of passionflower eliminates many causescerebral edema, adjusts the central nervous system, quickly cope with a headache. To prepare a medicinal infusion, you will need 1 teaspoon of the plant and a glass of boiling water. Mix these ingredients, cover and wait 10 minutes. A strained drink is drunk to 3 glasses a day (at an interval of 8 hours). Of course, this recipe is not suitable for newborns.

Eliminate the edema of the brain will help the following collection:

  • Grass of passionflower - 50g;
  • Orange flowers - 50g;
  • St. John's Wort - 50g;
  • Chamomile flowers - 50g;
  • Lime flowers - 50g.

Prepare the infusion, as in the previous recipe. Drink the medicine one glass three times a day.

Primrose is called a cure for all diseases. In particular, it is recommended for patients who have experienced edema in the brain. The plant stimulates the activity of the central nervous system, cures seizures, normalizes intracranial pressure, gives strength. You can brew flowers of the primrose as tea (a teaspoon into half a glass of boiling water), and drink every time after eating.

Also we would recommend to prepare such a collection:

  • Flowers primrose - 100 g;
  • Lime flowers - 50g;
  • Skullcap of the Baikal - 50 g.

Brew in a thermos 2 tablespoons of this mixture with 1 liter of water, insist all night. The next day, drink all the medicine in small portions. Treatment continue daily for 3-6 months.
